ILLICIT LOVER OF "MANDELA COUSIN" ZINI-BOBELO ALSO DRUNK ON THE JOB

2001-MARCH, ARMY COLLEGE, PRETORIA:FALSELY ACCUSED "BLACK" PHIRI WITH A MR GILLEPSY, AN ACQUINTANCE

AFFIDAVIT

1.  I, 87333498 PE Major Herman Francois Claassens ID  No.*********, a thirty year old male, working as the Second in Command of 2South African Infantry Battalion in Zeerust and residing at ******** Street, *****(town) and available at the following contact numbers: Cellphone**********, work ****************, wish to state the following under oath.

2.  I attended the Junior Command ans Staff Duties Course (JCSD) at the South African Army College over the period  14/08/2000 to 09/03/2001.

3.  It so happened that a certain evening we were working very late and while returning to our rooms we passed the building that the female students on course stayed in.  We noted that one of our JCSD instructors [Lieutenant Colonel Atlholang Raymond Lentsoe] sat in his private vehicle in front of the building with one of the lady students [Major Winnie Ntombizodwa Bobelo-Zini] on course with us in his car.  The reason why this was found to be not in order is because of the odd time and place for them to meet.  We could  clearly identify the two individuals [Lieutenant Colonel Atlholang Raymond Lentsoe and Major Winnie Ntombizodwa Bobelo-Zini]

4. Later during the course debrief it was discussed and I also made mention of this incident.  As a course we decided not to mention any names [then] but when asked for such we would make those names available.  This was sanctioned by the whole course.  Further under discussion came the fact that the same instructor [Lentsoe] appeared under the influence of alcohol on several occasions.  The detail of timings and places of most incidents I can not accurately recollect, but the one incident, the day of our arrival (13 August 2000) as students at the beginning of the course I can clearly recall.  The said instructor [Lentsoe] appeared very slovenly and untidy.  He was also clearly under the influence of liquor from the manner he spoke [drawled], smelled, and behaved.

5.  The reason why this became an issue so late in the course is because all members felt that his social life  and behaviour was too often unbecoming of an officer [and gentleman], specifically for an instructor [in a national institution with the stature of the South African Army College].

6.  This is all I wish to declare under oath.  I know and understand the content of the statement.  I have no objections to taking this oath and consider it to be binding on my conscience.

Signed on this the 16th day of August 2001 at Zeerust
